Thorns Collegiate Academy is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of one of its students, Ellawese, who has been named Junior Cadet of the Year 2024 by the Sea Cadets.
Although Ellawese was unable to attend the official awards evening, she was presented her well-deserved certificate during a recent parade night held in May. This recognition stands as a testament to her unwavering dedication, exemplary conduct and exceptional performance with the Sea Cadets throughout the year.
The Sea Cadets is a national youth charity working with young people aged 10 to 18 across the UK. Rooted in the customs and values of the Royal Navy, the organisation helps teenagers grow into confident, resilient individuals. Through practical learning, teamwork and personal challenge, the Sea Cadets equips young people with the tools they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Reflecting on her award, Ellawese said: “I was so happy that I won Junior Sea Cadet of the Year 2024. The people that inspired me was all of my Petty Officers (PO) at Sea Cadets.
“I have been there for two years and three months. I wanted to join the cadets because I would like to join the Royal Navy when I am older, and this can help me progress to that stage.”
Ellawese has consistently demonstrated the Sea Cadets’ core values; pushing herself to grow, supporting her peers and leading by example. Her commitment to personal development, discipline and leadership has been widely admired by both mentors and fellow cadets.
P.O. (SCC) Adam Timmins, Officer in Charge at Dudley Sea Cadets, commented: “Ellawese began her journey with Dudley Sea Cadets as a junior cadet, and it has been a privilege to witness and support her transformation into a confident, dedicated and highly focused young individual.
“Her consistent hard work, demonstrated not only through regular attendance at parade nights but also through active participation in events and activities such as sailing, kayaking, and camping, has earned her this well-deserved recognition.”
Nikki Jones, Principal at Thorns Collegiate Academy, said: “Ellawese’s recognition as Junior Cadet of the Year is a truly outstanding accomplishment. It reflects not only her dedication and character but also the values we strive to nurture and inspire in all our students here at Thorns.
“What makes this achievement so special is that it has been earned through quiet determination, resilience and a genuine desire to grow. We’re incredibly proud of her and I have no doubt she’ll continue to inspire those around her, both in our school community and beyond.”
Ellawese’s success is a shining example of what young people can achieve when they embrace opportunity with heart and determination. Her journey serves as an inspiration to her fellow students and the incredible potential within the Thorns Collegiate Academy community.
