Parents and Carers
At Thorns, student progress is assessed regularly through a range of learning checks, formative assessments, and summative assessments. These assessment opportunities provide teachers with valuable information about students’ knowledge, understanding, and progress over time. The outcomes are used alongside professional judgement to generate attainment predictions, helping us to identify strengths, celebrate achievements, and provide support where needed. Families receive progress reports three times each academic year, once per term. Two of these are interim reports, which provide key attainment and progress data. The third is a full report that includes attainment information alongside a personalised written comment from subject teachers, offering further insight into students’ performance, effort, and next steps for improvement.
