Year 7 and 8 students welcomed member of the House of Lords, Lord Hunt, for a special assembly introducing them to the role and influence of UK Parliament.
During his visit, Lord Hunt shared his personal insights and experiences in politics, explaining the roles and responsibilities of MPs, the House of Commons and the House of Lords. This gave students a valuable insight into how political decisions influence daily life.
By integrating local knowledge, students gained a deeper understanding of how politics resonates and directly influences their community, highlighting the importance of active citizenship and the importance of young people having their voices heard.
Throughout the session, students asked many thought-provoking questions to Lord Hunt, demonstrating an impressive level of knowledge and interest in politics.
The assembly was delivered as part of the Learn with the Lords programme led by Parliament Education, which aims to introduce students to the fundamentals of politics and government. The programme offers tailored assemblies and workshops for primary and secondary schools and post-16 providers, inspiring students’ interest in politics and providing a comprehensive understanding of parliamentary processes.
