Students are celebrating today after receiving their highly anticipated GCSE results, opening doors to their chosen sixth form, college or apprenticeship as they get ready to take the next steps in their education journeys.
Staff, students and families have come together to celebrate and mark the achievements of all students, who have worked incredibly hard to secure their final grades.
Overall, 92% of students achieved 5 or more GCSE, or equivalent, passes. The percentage of students achieving a Grade 5 or above in both English and Maths has increased again this year, with Grade 5 set by the government as a strong pass.
In English, just under a quarter of our students achieved grades 7 to 9, which was the highest in the academy’s history.

Your achievements reflect all your hard work, resilience and dedication and you should all be proud of yourselves and how far you have come as individuals. Remember that your potential knows no limits and we wish you all the very best for the future.

Thorns Collegiate Academy also has an Open Evening on Thursday 28 September and an Open Morning on Saturday 30 September for any families wanting to learn more about joining year 7 in September 2024. The doors will be open from 5.30pm-8.00pm on Thursday evening and from 9.00am -12.00pm on Saturday morning. All families are welcome, no appointment needed.
GCSE subjects are marked under a 1-9 grading system, with 9 being the highest grade. GCSEs are linear in structure rather than modular, with all exams taken at the end of a two-year course. A grade 4 is effectively an old C grade with a grade 9 being the equivalent of an A*.
