Students at Thorns Collegiate Academy are celebrating their results today, marking an important milestone in their educational journeys, which will open doors as they prepare to take their next steps – whether that be A level or vocational studies at sixth form, college or apprenticeships.
Families, staff and the wider school community have come together to recognise the hard work and dedication shown by students throughout their studies.
This year, students have achieved the highest percentage of grade 5+ in English and mathematics since joining Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust.
A total of 126 grades have been awarded at or above a grade 7, with 27% of students achieving this in their English qualifications.
Additionally, 90% of year 11 students completed at least 8 GCSE or BTEC qualifications across a broad range of 22 subjects, reflecting the diverse opportunities available at Thorns Collegiate Academy.
Performances were particularly strong in English Language, English Literature, Performing Arts and Design Technology.
Nikki Jones, Principal at Thorns Collegiate Academy, commented: “We are incredibly proud of our students and their achievements, which are the result of their relentless effort. We extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all our students for their future endeavours.”
Sir Mark Grundy, CEO of Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, added: “Congratulations to all our Year 11 students at Thorns Collegiate Academy. Your perseverance and determination have been truly impressive, and we are delighted to be celebrating your achievements with you.
“As you take your next exciting steps, we have every confidence that you will continue to excel and make a positive impact in all you do. On behalf of the Trust, we wish you every success and happiness in the years ahead.”
Thorns Collegiate Academy will be hosting an Open Evening on Thursday 18 September for families wanting to learn more about joining year 7 in September 2026. Doors will open from 5.30pm, no need to book just turn up.
GCSE qualifications are marked under a 9 – 1 grading system, with 9 being the highest grade. GCSEs are linear in structure rather than modular, with all exams taken at the end of a two-year course. BTEC qualifications are marked under a vocational grading system, distinction * – pass. This is broken down into 2 tiers of entry, Level 1 or Level 2 each with equivalence to GCSE grading. A Level 2 distinction * is the highest grade achievable.
