During the Year 9 Awards Assembly, just short of 100 students were presented with a certificate for achieving 95% or greater attendance since September 2018. Olivia, in form 9E, won an iPad in the prize draw, in which all students with excellent attendance records were included. Congratulations to all.
It was a busy Year 10 Rewards Assembly with over 70 students receiving a certificate for achieving a 95%+ attendance record for the academic year so far. These students were then placed into a prize draw, which saw one lucky student (Jack, pictured below) win an iPod.
Over 200,000 students from across the UK sat the Intermediate Maths Challenge this year, and Year 10 Thorns students, Nathan Gill, Ben Woodall, Thomas Powell and Ethan Powell won the Bronze Award, making Thorns a force to reckon with in the Mathematical world.
The Year 10 Maths Feast is an enjoyable and challenging team competition testing mathematical, team-working, and communication skills – reacting positively to a new situation and applying previous knowledge to solve problems. The Maths Feast is organised on a regional basis with over 70 events taking place across England in February and March. This year we entered two teams and we are proud of the following students for representing Thorns:
Marie Smith / Isobel Young / Emily Hatfield / Ellie Flavell (Award: Best Team Work)
Harrison Ratcliffe / Thomas Powell / Jake Burton / Hasnain Ahmed (Award: Round 1 Winner)
