What is Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust?
Shireland Academy Trust was established in September 2007 and is based in Smethwick at the founder academy, Shireland Collegiate Academy. We are fortunate in our Trust that we already have in place a number of teams that provide the sort of services that schools require to improve such as Finance, Human Resources, Safeguarding and ICT and these teams will support Thorns Collegiate Academy also. This will allow the staff at Thorns to focus on ensuring that the students enjoy the best possible experience.
Academies in the network:
Shireland Collegiate Academy: originally called Shireland High School, and then later Shireland Language College. The school became Shireland Collegiate Academy in 2007. The Academy and its predecessor schools have been run by Sir Mark Grundy since 1997. Shireland achieved one of the Ofsted “Outstanding Academy” Awards and a Pupil Premium award-winning school. Shireland achieved one of the highest Progress 8 values in the West Midlands in summer 2015-16 GCSE results. Shireland has a national reputation for school improvement, curriculum design and for the way that it uses technology to support staff and students. Shireland is a Teaching School which trains the teachers of the future and has partnerships with organisations such as Microsoft and Birmingham Hippodrome.
The Trust is also establishing four Technology Primary Free Schools across the Black Country. It is proposed that two will open in September 2019, with two more to follow. Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust also operates Holyhead Primary Academy in Wednesbury.
