SEND

Students identified with SEND are able to access the general curriculum within the Academy, achieved by using a range of strategies designed to meet the needs of individual students. This includes a range of 1:1 and small group interventions, including both direct teaching and the use of computer software. The Inclusion department also provides some in-class support, working with teachers across a number of subjects. Students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs are also able to access support from Mrs Bradley at Compass. Students with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) needs are also able to access support from Mrs Hussain at The Link. Here students may receive targeted 1:1 interventions or participate in small group work.

Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust highly values a holistic approach to supporting SEND students. We are working collaboratively with external organisations to promote a range of SEND opportunities for students and their families.

Meet the Team

We host a number of Lego Groups across the Academy.
 
Lego group is a play-based structured intervention for students to support the development of social and collaborative skills. Students work in teams of three to build a Lego model and each child has a particular role; supplier, engineer or builder.
 
Well done to these three students who have completed a particularly tricky build!

Dudley Parent Carer Forum Survey

Dudley Parent Carer Forum are currently running their annual survey of SEND services. This is a completely independent survey, designed for parent carers of children or young people aged 0-25, looking at a range of education, health and social care services across the borough. Parent Carers are invited to share their views, letting us know about the services that are doing well, and those that may need to improve. We had a fantastic response last year and the results of this provided us with some very important data which has enabled us to push for change where this is needed.

The survey takes around 10-15 minutes to complete.

Dudley Special Educational Needs & Disability Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) will be hosting a number of workshops and sessions throughout the Autumn term.
All sessions are delivered on MS Teams.
