GCSE Results Day – Celebrating our most successful year for academic achievement

Celebrating Success

Thorns Collegiate Academy celebrated excellent GCSE results, welcoming Year 11 back to mark their achievements. Overall, the Academy results represent their most successful year for academic achievement.

Principal Manny Kelay said “We are extremely proud of our young people, who made every moment count, achieving results which reflect their hard work. We wish them well as they move on.”

After a third year of increased results, 67 percent of students left the Academy with English at Grade 5 or better, while more students achieved a Grade 4 in Mathematics than ever before. Across the Academy, there were 39 Grade 9s achieved; the top grade, available to only three percent of the country’s students.

Abbie Hale achieved an incredible eight Grade 9s, while Jasmine Priantoro celebrated 3 Grade 9s and 4 Grade 8s. Amarjot Singh, Charlie Fletcher and Daniel Smith achieved triple Grade 9 in all three Separate Sciences. Product Design celebrated an immensely successful first year as a core subject with 8 Grade 9s, and the other creative subjects produced sterling individual performances. Both Robbie Hands and Piotr Maculewicz achieved a 9 in Mathematics. Other students achieving a Grade 9 include Elise Mills, Lauren Woodall and Pak-Yin Ko.

Elsewhere, individual results have emerged through sustained hard work: Kelsey Brookes achieved a 6 in English Language and 5 in Science; Josh Garner achieved a significant pair of Grade 7s in English Language and Literature; Jake Cartwright achieved Grade 8 in both Language and Literature; Matthew Hawkins beat his targets in most subjects by at least one grade; and Chloe Hickman performed similarly, highlighted by a well-deserved Grade 9 in English.

Principal Manny Kelay added “We are a truly comprehensive school – we do not only celebrate the strongest academic achievements, but those at every level. Every result is important today.”
