Birmingham Hippodrome Anniversary Celebrations

To celebrate Birmingham Hippodrome’s anniversary, marking 120 years since it started life as a circus, Year 9 students had the privilege of seeing the show ‘Circus 1903’ before participating in a number of workshops with artists from the Hippodrome.

Students witnessed life-sized elephants created by the award-winning team behind War Horse and a huge cast of jaw-dropping and dangerous acts from across the globe including acrobats, contortionists, trapeze and high wire performers.

The following day, the Dance Department were invited to perform live in the foyer of the Hippodrome, where they danced a circus-themed piece to ‘Black and Gold’, dazzling their audience with lots of sass and sequins!

The following week, artists from the Hippodrome visited the academy to work with the year 9 students who saw the show, who got to experience a puppetry workshop and a circus skills based workshop.

It has been a thoroughly enjoyable series of events, enjoyed by all, and we feel honoured to have been part of the Hippodrome’s birthday celebrations.
