Restart A Heart Day 2019

Restart A Heart Day is an annual event which aims to increase the numbers of people in the UK who are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). West Midlands Ambulance Service offered Thorns the opportunity to have practical CPR training delivered to a number of our students during the penultimate week of this half term.

Our Year 7 & 8 students were, after a 20-minute DVD tutorial and paramedic instruction, set the challenge of recreating what they had learned on ten manikins that had been kindly provided by West Midlands Ambulance Service. Students were then asked to contribute to a research study assessing the impact of the training session and whether they would be likely to help someone in cardiac arrest.
