Cooking up a treat

Outstanding Culinary Talent!

Year 10 student Abbie became one of the eight finalists in the Young Chef of the Year Competition.
After entering the first part of the competition, Abbie was called to create her dishes at the University College Birmingham, where she created a main course and a dessert, as part of the semi-final.

She was competing against sixteen other students from the West Midlands area. The event took place in a large catering kitchen in front of an audience of parents, teachers and chefs.

Her main meal consisted of sea bass with potato and celeriac mash, asparagus, and a Mediterranean salsa. Her dessert was a deconstructed lemon meringue pie with raspberry puree and a raspberry dust.

Abbie also had the opportunity to meet celebrity chef Glynn Purnell, who presented her with a signed copy of his new book, framed certificate and her own embroidered chefs whites. Congratulations Abbie!
